Like all the colonial cities of America, Mérida was designed, in accordance to a broad layout, starting from a central plaza. Pleasantly shaded by laurels from India, this central plaza is surrounded in its four sides by some of the most venerable buildings of the city.
At sunset, the plaza is the place where the “Yucatecos” (people from Mérida) and the troubadours meet to enjoy the fresh air in the middle of the beautiful skillfully illuminated buildings.
Even though Mérida is famous because of its history, its traditions, its artistic manifestations and its romantic people who live to the rhythm of the troubadours, it is also the economic center of the Southeastern part of México and a modern and dynamic urban city.
